Different approaches for different choices. For a straight stone walkway, simply stand at one of the ends of the imagined path. Tie one end of a ball of string to something, or have someone hold it for you, and unravel the string as you walk over the planned route to the other end of the walkway. If you like what you see, drive in a stake at each end and secure the string, marking one border of the projected walkway. Similarly, mark out the other border to the left or right of this line (leaving a gap as wide as you want the path to be).
Whether you go all-out or keep it more subtle, patterned paper, accessories or bedding can transform a lifeless room into a haven of colour. Create a focal point by wall-papering one wall or add interest to a bedroom with bold bedlinen. But avoid mixing too many patterns and colours. For those lacking in confidence, introduce patterns via accessories like window dressings, cushions, lampshades and ornaments.
Color - Think Green. Look around and get inspired by the splendid colors of nature. Create your lush green roomscape starting with one or several of the vibrant green hues that abound - lily pad green, juniper, basil, deep kiwi, lime green, grasshopper, artichoke and jasmine, just to name a few. Paint an accent wall, or mix colors in by adding accessories.
Give surfaces deliberate style. Coffee tables, side boards and bookshelves scream to be styled. It is amazing what you can pull together from the items in your own home. No need to go shopping for knickknacks; try shopping in your home first, suggests Ana Cummings, the owner of ANA Interiors.
